The Question of Style

Keep the home’s architectural style in mind during renovation.

The ruffled cafe curtains, fruit patterned rug,
detailed shelf and chairs all contribute to this kitchen’s country style.

The skirt length drapery is perfect for a kitchen,
and the window grills have been removed for a simplified appearance.

In our previous highlight, we discussed empty-nesters updating their home. They intended to stay in the home for the foreseeable future and wanted their redesign changes to withstand the test of time. We were able to prioritize the project and manage the budget.

As the project progressed, we found that the incredible variety of materials and furnishings available to homeowners today can be a distraction and cause them to lose sight of the architectural style of the home. In this home, the wood cabinets were made of oak in a medium stain in a simple, casual style.  We selected chairs in a darker tone to break up an abundance of medium wood. Their sleek and sophisticated design, in a natural woven material, also speaks to a casual feeling. Only the table top was refinished in a darker stain to create a two-toned piece. This brings the color of the original cabinets together with the new chairs.

The traditional wrought iron drapery rod was paired with clip rings to allow the drapery panels to be changed easily for years to come. The drapery fabric has a traditional scroll pattern that looks as though it were “hand drawn”. This also contributes to the casual feel of the room.
